StrangerKady Zadora

★★☆

Kady Zadora is no novice in the music industry, but after a brief practice in pop, the LA-based musician found passion in the essence of classic Americana. She tells her stories in a raw and perfectly simple way. Her debut album, Stranger, is a poetic chronology of life and relationships as they unfold.

Recorded live and in-studio, Stranger is deeply personal. There are no click tracks or overpolished autotune, just a small group of musicians who preserve the intimacy of performance. Live contributions from Rob Humphreys, Matt Musty, Dan Kalisher, Dylan Day, and Will Easly enhance the album’s integrity.

Compiled, the tracks summarize the events of a past relationship and journey to self-recognition. Written over the course of a year and a half, Zadora lets her audience feel her world of pain and eventual clarity in real time.

Opening with “Stranger I Loved,” Zadora bares all by sharing her singular wishes from her romantic partner. Immediately, the unrequited desires are apparent. A romance where neither party is truly honest with one another, and evidently not themselves. Zadora’s beautiful voice makes this story all the more worth listening to.

Lyric videos were released alongside the album to expand Stranger into the visual world. Today, the music video for the focal track “Malibu” was released, strengthening empathetic ties to the audio and visual atmosphere of Stranger.

Filmed in Brazil on both Red and VHS cameras, the visual components of “Malibu” are exceptionally genuine. VHS shots are used to amplify the clouded perspective Zadora would have had while unaware of the brevity of her relationship. Through this fractured lens, we tune into the acceptance of loss, followed by moments of clarity and quiet grace.

After “Malibu,” the chronological account continues with tracks like “Hard Truths” and “Stranger I Loved“. In totality, the album created a communal experience of letting go of love once cherished.

The transformation of such difficult experiences into beautiful music is a testament to Zadora’s honest merit and resilience. To follow Kady Zadora’s incredible storytelling, look here
