“blur” – Low.bō

★★

What makes R&B so compelling as a genre is the ability to pull from untouched depths that connect deeply into the souls of listeners. Artists can capture feelings left unprovoked by words and instead transform them into alluring melodic pieces. The genre is painfully human and soulfully regenerative. Baltimore-born, NYC-based artist Low.bō is one such artist who bravely creates in awe of how it feels to desire.

His recent single “blur” is a gorgeous interpretation of frustrated love; the kind of love that begs follow-up questions. With a sonic quality equivalent to the gut-ache of something unrequited, Low.bō describes coinciding feelings of mourning and acceptance. The musicality of the track is inspiring, and there is no other word but impressive to describe his vocal prowess in his work.

“How could you say I’m the problem / it takes two to fill that role.”

These lyrics are not so much a blameful regret, but a realization of how a connection is influenced by overconsuming passion. There is a quiet sorrow among these yearning words. There is also profound recognition that some connections are not meant to last.

It is real, it is tender, and it is not an easy truth to describe when feeling scorned.

A willingness to expose himself to vulnerability while simultaneously accepting that he must grow from heartache helps Low.bō stand apart in the R&B scene today. His emerging talent is one to be thankful for, and audiences should accept his art with care.

blur” is the second single in anticipation of Low.bō’s upcoming album husk, set to release on September 3. Until then, pop on some headphones and walk through downtown Manhattan while listening to his previously released work here.
